Each season holds a special place in my heart (and my makeup case) but, Fall in particular I find quite magical because of the merlot-shaded lipsticks, shimmery, golden eye shadows, and even romantic red nail polish. Naturally, the different elements of Fall makeup pair perfectly with neutral colors, which we all know is my (all of our?) favorite wardrobe staple. This season, I've been spending an increased amount of time wandering the aisles of MAC, Sephora, and Ulta in order to discover new brands that I hadn't necessarily taken a liking to before.
Additionally, my reliable Chi straightener decided it wasn't working out between us any longer and I was forced into the vastly unknown world of heat tools again. RIP Chi. It was particularly rough at first being on my own after 8 years, but I have to say, I've since learned more than I had expected to in that area. So, today I'm sharing my recently learned knowledge with you and the 8 staple beauty buys I can't stop using this Fall:
1. Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer "Carnelian" and ColorStay Lip liner "Wine"
The combination of this lip gloss and liner creates the perfect shade for Fall. I love that I didn't have to splurge on an expensive brand for a new, chic lip color this season. I'm on a constant search for a lipstick or gloss that doesn't dry out my lips but, one that also stays on for the duration of the day whether I'm eating, drinking, or working. Thankfully, this duo by Revlon does the trick in half the cost of the high-end brands. The lip gloss is not sticky, and stays on long after your morning coffee, and the lip liner is perfect for defining your shape and touching up throughout the day.
2. Essie Nail Polish "Size Matters"
To match my lips and every neutral outfit that I put on, the Essie "Size Matters" nail polish is my go-to during this season. Its merlot shade matches the lip color and blush that I use which ties a 5-minute look together seamlessly. Essie has been my favorite brand of nail polish for the past few years because it is inexpensive but, it still has the options for chic, trendy colors that OPI and others are lacking.
3. Remington Pearl Pro Ceramic 1 Inch Flat Iron
As I mentioned in my intro, I was in desperate need of a straightener at the beginning of this Fall season because mine had finally worn out. Since I wasn't willing to drop another $150-$200 on a new straightener in such short notice, I went online and did a little research. After scooping up my Remington Pearl Pro Ceramic 1 Inch Flat Iron at ULTA Beauty and putting it to the test, I am extremely pleased to report that it has absolutely lived up to its fantastic reviews online. I hate to say it, but this $30 straightener heats up 10 times faster, is lighter and easier to transport, the technology is far more advanced, and, overall, it does the job twice as good as my old $150 Chi straightener. It makes me almost wish my Chi died even earlier than it did. #sorrynotsorry
4. Paul Mitchell Platinum Blonde Shampoo
My hair stylist turned me onto this specific shampoo after a coloring session and I couldn't be more thankful. It allows me to keep my initial shine from visiting the salon but, also ensures that my hair doesn't turn brassy after a few washes. I've got an extra 4 bottles stocked in my bathroom closet now. You know... for a zombie apocalypse or something. Gotta be prepared.
5. Burt's Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes with White Tea Extract
If you've been keeping up with my seasonal beauty buys, you know that I love baby oil for removing makeup each day because of how gentle it is on the skin. However, when I'm not feeling up to a 15 minute thorough rinse and clean of my face, whether I'm away from the house, traveling, or just had a long day, I've been reaching for one of these quick facial cleansing towelettes. One wipe alone removes all of the stubborn makeup and dirt that my face has accumulated throughout the day. And, because it's made with white tea, cucumber, and aloe, my skin hasn't had any complaints.
6. Eylure Naturals No. 011 Eyelash Kit
I'm not a big fan of fake eyelashes for the day-to-day routine. That being said, we all know that from October to January, it is officially "holiday season". This generally translates to a mandatory attendance at a number of formal events, whether work, family or friends related, where a ridiculous amount of photos will be taken. For these few months, I keep these Eylure Naturals eyelashes stocked in my cosmetics case. The eyelashes are so natural to the point of people (even your partner) having no idea that you have them on. They seamlessly add volume to your eyelashes and are appropriate for a formal setting without appearing over the top or cartoonish.
7. Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush "Plum Wine"
Naturally, I had to include a blush in here since I already had the matching merlot-shaded lip color and polish. This blush is inexpensive, can be purchased on the go, and is easy to apply last minute. Because this product is so concentrated, you only need a small dab on your fingertip to apply and smooth on your cheek bones in order to highlight and bring out that pop of color for Fall.
8. Shea Moisture Strengthen, Regrow & Restore Treatment Masque
After my experiment with Korean beauty products on the blog a month or two back, I promised myself that I would keep a hair masque on hand to use once a week to repair and strengthen my hair. Because the one that I tested out during that experiment was far too difficult to apply in 5 minutes or less, I opted this time for a classic cream base instead. I use this treatment masque once a week in the shower to keep my hair silky, soft, and to protect it against damage from the cold weather this season. I coat the masque all over my hair after I've shampooed and rinsed and I keep it on for approximately 10-15 minutes to allow it to soak in and treat. Once complete, I comb my hair through and rinse to remove.
