Welcome! Today, I'm sharing my last DIY project before my home office reveal. Throughout my redesign phase of this room, I decided that we definitely needed to add shelves in order to add depth and decoration to the plain walls. In order to do this, I decided, with the assistance of Sam, to make my own wood shelves so that I could ensure that they were modern but didn't appear "cheap". Making the shelves really turned out to be quite simple and inexpensive. Then the fun part of the project came, where I actually got to design and style the shelves to fit the theme of my room. So, today I'm going to take you through the steps from start to finish:
Materials for shelves:
How to build shelves:
After securing the shelves into place, I styled them using a mixture of plants and succulents, two antique paintings that I picked up at a yard sale, some bar essentials, and my favorite crystal glassware. I had the majority of these styling items already lying around the house but, I did pick up a few new things that I knew would fit into the overall theme like the mason jar candle and the mini bottles of Pelligrino. However, I would recommend that if you are purchasing items to be used for styling, you may want to choose a color palette first so that everything will flow together nicely.
Since the majority of my home office is neutral colored, I chose to add a few pops of green and gold accents to make the shelves stand out. In addition, I used tiny succulents to fill blank space and add a touch of nature that ties in well with my other plants and flowers around the room.
All in all, styling these shelves is about what you like and want to look at every day. I styled mine with a mixture of what makes me happy which is unique items I've collected from thrifting over the years, baby succulents, bar essentials, and, my personal favorite, a set of colorful champagne glasses. I know that throughout the year, these shelves will change and be styled differently according to my taste. I'm also excited to work in different accent colors and unique items for each season.
