I'm officially in the holiday spirit! With only 10 days left until Christmas, we have our home decorated, the holiday music blaring, and festive treats baking almost around the clock. One of my favorite things about the holiday season is the endless amount of celebrations and soirees to attend during the month of December. There's always an added level of excitement when I know that an event is approaching because it generally implies that I'll have the chance to get all dolled up and feeling extra fancy for the night.
I've been labeled as a "girly girl" since I was little; it was truly no surprise when I joined the cheer-leading or dance teams at every opportunity I had. This personality, while much more refined (one would hope), has carried with me through adolescence and now translates to make-up, heels, and accessories. Now, I don't know about you, but there's just something I find that is so sweet and feminine about these pleated skirts that have recently come back into style. Something so sweet that I can't help but make it my go-to staple item while planning for almost every holiday event this season.
So, today I'm sharing one of my favorite looks for this Winter including some high and low-end items mixed together to create the perfect balance of glam for the holidays.
Sweater: Banana Republic, Skirt: Banana Republic, Heels: Christian Louboutin,
Clutch: Coach (similar here), Necklace: vintage (similar here), Nail Polish: Essie Apres-Chic, Lip Liner: Maybelline 20 Nude, Lipstick: MAC Matte Kinda Sexy

Can you believe that 2015 is almost over already? I swear that the older I get, the faster the year flies by. It feels just like a second ago that I was writing my Fall to-do list and sharing it on the blog with you guys. If you followed along over the past few months, you know that I gradually checked off items on that list of things to do (which turned out to be a blast, by the way). And, while it doesn't exactly feel like Winter yet here in Maryland, what with 70-degree days currently, it doesn't hide the fact that we truly only have less than 2 weeks until Christmas. So, today I created a condensed list of some of the things that I'd love to do this Winter:
What is on your Winter to-do list this year? I want to know what you're looking forward to this season! Share with me in the comments below.

Ahh. It's official, Sam and I survived our first December weekend filled with holiday gatherings, pie making, and present wrapping. Not to say that there isn't like, way more where that came from but, we're definitely off to a fantastic start. This week was truly lovely at home due to the fact that I completed my last final for my undergraduate studies EVER. I celebrated immediately after by spending an hour in the wine market aimlessly pondering aisles of new items to try and, after that, Sam and I made the most restaurant-worthy dinner together yet.
Lately, our DIY advent calendar has been ordering us around, instructing us to do the craziest things this week from Mexican theme night where we were forced to make delicious margaritas on the rocks, a Christmas movie marathon night where we simply weren't allowed to fall asleep until we watched at least 3 Home Alone movies, and a Scrabble competition that was nearly as difficult as my last college exam. That damn advent calendar, running us ragged all week. It has got a mind of its own, I tell you.
Any who, how was your week? I hope it was spend well surrounded by loved ones or, at the very least, included a few homemade cocktails from my newly shared recipe.

Men, pull up a seat because this one is for you. Not saying that you need it but... if we're being honest, a little outside perspective never hurt. Today, I've rounded up a few of the coolest, sexiest, and most stylish presents to get the women in your life.

You know what I've always found to be quite peculiar? The way that our preferences, taste, and style evolve over time. Even in a matter of months, really. The reason I say this is because I recall sampling my grandmother's eggnog at my mom's house just last year on Christmas and spitting it out like it was flaming gasoline. I hated it. After all, it was store-bought but, I can't blame that fact entirely. Actually, I didn't even realize that I enjoyed eggnog until I took a leap of faith and made this recipe at home myself.
The holidays tend to be my favorite time out of the whole year. With the overwhelming feeling of generosity, family togetherness, and festive activities and events to attend to, who wouldn't love the holidays? A huge part of that for myself and my family is the food and cocktails. We all love to gather around the kitchen to create and test out new recipes together.
This year, as I was pondering my relatively new devotion to full-bodied red wine, and the enormous shift since childhood in favor of mashed potatoes, I came to the conclusion that maybe I should give eggnog a second chance at winning me over as well. After all, it's not eggnog's fault that my grandmother only introduced me to the store-bought version.
I was then thinking about how I hadn't used my giant ice cube mold in a long time and that it might be feeling quite forgotten so, I pulled that sucker out and tried to freeze the whiskey overnight. Toootal fail. Guess it's no secret that I'm not exactly a liquor connoisseur. But, I was determined to create a strong, cozy cocktail for the Winter so I tried again. That's what blogging is all about. I make the mistakes and a huge mess of my kitchen and you, my readers, benefit from the end result, right? So, I froze the eggnog (after I almost devoured it while cooking) and, in turn, it made for the most exquisite, festive looking cocktail to serve guests during the holidays.
So, today I'm sharing my twist on the traditional, homemade spiked eggnog recipe to make your guests feel happy, festive, and definitely drunk. (P.S. - please drink responsibly; no one wants to end up in the clinker on Christmas Eve) Enjoy!
(Makes 5-6 cocktails)
Tip: If you don't want the cocktail as strong, just add less whiskey and more homemade eggnog to fill in around the frozen cube.
I hope you all enjoyed my homemade spiked eggnog recipe! Let me know how your cocktail turned out in the comments below.

December is the busiest month of the year and it flies by so fast, like, too fast. For example, as I write this, I'm actually in the middle of the construction of a very technical, very important pie tart for an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party tonight. On a side note, Sam and I have been loooving our DIY Advent Calendar that I created, shared, and started on December 1st. As I had anticipated, I already forgot about all the cool shit that I put inside each bag. This morning our note wrote, "Do a random act of kindness in 24 hours" so, on our way back from the diner this morning (we really didn't feel like making breakfast), we picked up a big, beautiful bouquet of holiday roses and surprised his Mom. She was happy and cute as usual.
I said that I was going to put up our Christmas tree last weekend but, we didn't get around to it and I'm not sorry. The beef stew and bread that I worked on all day was totally worth not doing anything else. I'll for sure be sharing those recipes with you by next week at the latest because you need to make them to... keep warm, duh.
Then, last night after a long day at the office, I tricked some teenagers into abandoning a rack of super ugly Christmas sweaters to snag after a few of you sent me some recommendations on where to find them for the party tonight (thanks, ya'll). They are straight up UGLY and I'm convinced that it's going to be totally fun. The plan is to drink festive cocktails with mini Santa hats on top, listen to raunchy Christmas music, and sleep in sleeping bags on our friend's floor, well, because we're adults. Why else?
Are you guys doing anything super fun and festive this weekend? I really hope I get to see some pictures of you all in ugly Christmas sweaters as well so that we can all pretend that we weren't totally sweating and uncomfortable underneath with a rash from the cheap fabric. No? Just me? Either way, today's edition of Weekend Links should make up for it. I've gathered links from around the web that include the coolest Christmas tree I've ever laid eyes on, a decadent dessert recipe that seems to be disguised as hot chocolate, a tutorial on making your wrapped presents a little more chic, a recipe to make your home smell like Christmas in case you're not quite in the spirit yet, and a DIY present for others (or yourself) that will keep the little toes toasty and cute.

In case you haven't noticed the long lines, aggravated crowds, and hundreds of emails filling your mail box each day, holiday shopping season is upon us! See, the thing about Black Friday and Cyber Monday is that retailers really, desperately want us to believe that these two occasions are the best days in the entire month of December to score sales. However, as the years have passed since these traditions were first announced, the "sale days" have become quite blurry. Is it just me or does it seem like these "biggest sale of the year" deals tend to span the entire month now? Either way, it's a good enough excuse for me to continue on shopping and taking advantage of these ridiculous prices.
Furthermore, everyone has a "hostess" in their life, right? If you can't think of a friend or family member that is the designated go-to for hosting holiday celebrations, dinner parties, and the occasional happy hour, chances are it's you. So, whether you're shopping for that someone on your list that always has an open door and endless stories to tell around the dinner table, or you're simply shopping for yourself, my first installment of holiday gift guides is here and packed full of goodies:
01. to go with any room (and any season) and hold pretty flowers $34
02. to keep your guests cozy and warm on the couch $180
03. to hold your trendy tiered cake $58
04. to remind you why you slave over dinner every night $30
05. in case your guests are in need of some offensive entertainment $25
06. to warm the tea after dinnertime $90
07. to show your guests that you're healthy and on trend $25
08. because you're fancy, obviously $32
09. to add a little extra flavor to your tea time $13
What items are on your shopping list for the hostess in your life? Let me know in the comments.
Don't forget to stop by tomorrow morning for the most recent installment of Weekend Links!
