One of my favorite things about Spring is entertaining outdoors. This past Sunday, Sam's mom and I partnered up to host a birthday lunch for him on the rooftop of their home overlooking the city. We both stuck with what we were most comfortable with - her cooking and me decorating and it turned out to be a match made in Spring heaven.
I decided to keep the tablescape very relaxed and simple since the lunch was early in the day and outdoors. Pairing a white, linen tablecloth with crystal glasses, handmade white plates, and gray tasseled cloth napkins made for a very low-maintenance set up and allowed the flowers and food to take center stage.
In the morning, we picked up fresh bread and flowers from the farmers market downtown, and grabbed a few bottles of our favorite wine on our way home to pair with the indulgent food. I used a couple of wooden serving boards to hold the bread and cupcakes and we opted for natural-colored salad bowls and accessories to offset the white plates.
Sam's mom and I decided on a menu of his favorite dishes including homemade caesar salad, steamed artichokes, filet mignon with bearnaise sauce, olive oil, garlic, and rosemary dip for the fresh bread, and we served a variety of gourmet cupcakes for dessert. It was the perfect, Spring setting for a celebratory lunch.
